The Girl on the Train, 2016

Completely insufferable. I tried to watch this over 2 sittings and totally gave up with over 45 minutes to go.

Hell or High Water, 2016

A great western for modern times. Terrific performances all round and some of the best lines since Bone Tomahawk.

Viva Amiga, 2016

Not a terribly deep documentary it just kept repeating the same information over and over again. As an old school Amiga owner myself I was pretty let down.

Blair Witch, 2016

Very disappointing sequel from one of my favorite working filmmakers. It ended up being like every other found footage movie. I was expecting Wingard to take it to the next level.

The Accountant, 2016

All of the connections and coincidences had me laughing more than I’m sure the filmmakers would have liked me to.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, 2016

I was actually a little worried and bored by the first third of the movie. Luckily things got back on track when the proper plot kicked in. The final third of the movie was completely thrilling.

Spectral, 2016

The effects were great, the story no so much.

The Frontier, 2015

A fun little thriller with some terrific performances. The setting was definitely the 1970s but the tone felt more like mid 1990s to me. Like all of the post-Pulp Fiction crime thrillers that flooded the Blockbuster Video shelves.

Man vs. Snake, 2015

A nice companion piece to the much more enjoyable King of Kong. It’s always great to see Billy Mitchell slinking around.

Arrival, 2016

It’s been a week since I went to watch this movie and I can’t stop thinking about it. I love how Villeneuve never dumbs down his movies. I’m very excited to see what he can do with Blade Runner.

Gremlins, 1984

I probably haven’t watched this beginning to end since I was a kid in 1984. Such a fun movie. They just don’t make kids movies like this anymore and that’s a real shame.

Enemy, 2013

A gorgeously shot movie and a real head scratcher. I’m not sure if I liked it or not.

Suicide Squad, 2016

The plot was total trash, but I still really enjoyed the characters. Leto’s Joker was pretty creepy. Harley Quinn was great. The biggest surprise to me was how good Jai Courtney was as Captain Boomerang.
