Moonlight, 2016

One of the rare times I wish a movie was longer. Usually I am begging them to be over with. I feel that all 3 stories could have used a little more time to learn more about Chiron.

Passengers, 2016

I know most reviewers dumped all over this movie when it came out, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. Lawrence and Pratt are likable enough to pull even the thinest plot off.

Doctor Strange, 2016

A visual treat for sure, but you can really notice the usual Marvel origin story template at work. Strange’s mean steak and flat humor were a bit odd.

The Founder, 2016

I think the movie was trying to make you root for Ray Kroc. All I came away with was feeling sad for the McDonald brothers.

Split, 2016

This review may contain spoilers. I loved the idea of Shyamalan hiding a movie within another movie. The little capper with Bruce Willis tying this movie into the Unbreakable universe was cool, but that one scene couldn’t hide the fact that Casey’s story just wasn’t satisfyingly wrapped up.

Beware the Slenderman, 2016

Made me understand how easily something like this can happen. Hopefully we’ll eventually get some type of follow up to finally see what happens to the girls.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, 2017

Six movie in and these filmmakers have mastered the art of writing themselves out of corners. I didn’t like this as much as Retribution. I was surprised Wesker didn’t have much to do.

Overnight, 2003

The best cautionary tale ever caught on tape. Troy Duffy was king of the world for all of 5 minutes and blew it all when he crossed the Hollywood system.

Breaking a Monster, 2015

You can just watch the joy of playing kick ass metal music being sucked out of these kids by the record industry system. I hope they all stick with it.

The Girl on the Train, 2016

Completely insufferable. I tried to watch this over 2 sittings and totally gave up with over 45 minutes to go.

Hell or High Water, 2016

A great western for modern times. Terrific performances all round and some of the best lines since Bone Tomahawk.

Viva Amiga, 2016

Not a terribly deep documentary it just kept repeating the same information over and over again. As an old school Amiga owner myself I was pretty let down.

Blair Witch, 2016

Very disappointing sequel from one of my favorite working filmmakers. It ended up being like every other found footage movie. I was expecting Wingard to take it to the next level.

The Accountant, 2016

All of the connections and coincidences had me laughing more than I’m sure the filmmakers would have liked me to.
